Flow Cytometrist for the Flow Cytometry Unit

The Flow Cytometry Unit at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) is looking to incorporate an enthusiastic flow cytometrist to their busy unit. The CNIO is an international recognised center of research excellence and its state-of-the-art installations are based on Madrid (Spain).
The unit currently counts with three high speed cell sorters (1 FACS ARIA IIu, 1 InFlux and 1 MoFlo ASTRIOS), and 4 analytical cytometers (1 FACS Calibur, 2 FACS CANTO II and 1 LSR Fortessa). We also count with 2 automated cell counters and 1 AutoMACS Pro.
Primary duties for this position will include:
- Daily QC, maintenance and operation of the unit cell sorters.
- Train investigators from different backgrounds and level of expertise on the use of the unit analytical instruments.
- Assist investigators when need it on their experimental design, data acquisition and analysis using third party softwares such FlowJo, FCS Express and ModFit.
- Pro-actively contribute to the development of new flow cytometric methods and optimization of current protocols used in the lab.
- Contribute to the generation of flow cytometric training material and help out in the development of the unit flow courses.
- Help out with some of the administrative tasks of the unit when required by the unit head.
- Troubleshooting of instruments and user experiments.

Se Requiere

- Applicants should count with a BSc or MSc in a relevant biomedical field.
- Previous experience in cell sorting and analytical flow cytometry will be a bonus.
- Research lab experience, including tissue culture and sample preparation will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of flow cytometry analysis software packages as FlowJo, ModFit and FCS Express will be desirable.
- Good knowledge of the common flow cytometric applications (multicolor immunophenotyping, DNA analysis, apoptosis, etc).
- Previous cell sorting experience will be a bonus.
- IT skills, good knowledge of common Microsoft packages are required.
- The successful candidate will be working in a core unit, so he/she will work as part of a team. Good communication and social skills are required, as he/she will need to interact with a broad spectra of people with different degrees of experience.
- Fluent in English.
- Preferibly we are looking for a senior experienced cytometrist but not much flow cytometry experience with a hunger to learn and a good aptitude towards working in the unit will also work.
